n-ost Reportage Award 2009: The winners set

(n-ost) - The winners of the n-ost Reportage Award 2009 have been announced. From 70 entries, the jury selected in an anonymous method, the three best texts. Place: Michael Martens, 36, correspondent of the FAZ

Michael Martens spoke for his report "The torturers are still at night" (published on 07.20.2008 in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung Sunday) with the Bulgarian nurses who had to spend eight years in the power of Libyan hijackers. Empathetic, he describes how they try, one year after their release, way back into everyday life.

second Place: Ljubic Nicol, 38, a freelance journalist

Nicol Ljubic has for his text, "Life has made them men" (published on 26.03.2009 in the star) in search of "sworn virgins" Albania made. Following a centuries-old custom set, these women are young girls as the pledge to remain chaste and live like a man, to feed their families or to escape an arranged marriage.

third Place: Oliver Bilger, 29, a volunteer of the Süddeutsche Zeitung

Oliver Bilger describes in "if military service makes defenseless" (published on 13.08.2008 in the Moscow German newspaper) one of the worst abuse cases in the Russian Army. He went to Andrei Sychev, the tormented his comrades so brutal that doctors had to amputate both his legs - and still nothing would do better than to go back to the military.
